We can get real busy in real estate without the benefits that should come from our hard work. The secret is that sometimes we are just plain busy and not as productive as we would like to be. Being productive means doing the right thing at the right time. This is not as easy as it is to say. Saying it is like falling off a log while doing it is like making that log into a canoe.
It is simple but simple things are hard to do. Complicated and convoluted is so much easier because we get to feel that we are busy while we are really just doing lots of things that don’t lead to a meaningful end result.
This is not new and there is no doubt that we have all read this message before. There is probably a stone tablet that has this message carved into it somewhere on some mountain top in a far off land. This doesn’t mean that we don’t need to be reminded of it every now and again.
“I will do the most productive thing at every moment of the day” was a sign that hung over a broker’s office and he lived by it…sometimes.
Imagine the motto hung right over his desk and he was still unable to live by it 100% of the time. He would spend time making elaborate lunches for himself and make short meetings into long meetings as he just didn’t know how to stop a meeting from running over time.
These are just small examples. The man generally lived his motto and was very successful because of it.
A very good article with a timeless lesson*
Canoes can get us places but we need to take the time to see the canoe and then design it and build it. Never the easiest thing. And the fishing is better!
